Indian Sweat Lodge and Hot Tub.
Vildmarks Spa by Västra Silen’s beach.
The Native American Sweat Lodge originally comes from North America. The Indians heated rocks until they were red hot. Then these were moved into a “sweat hut” which was built of bent twigs and which stood in a ring covered with skins. In the sweat lodge, they poured water on the stones and had fragrant herbs that were said to bring contact with Manito, the protector of the Indians.
Today you can experience for yourself a slightly more modern “sweat hut” in Risviken south of Årjäng. The hut made of twigs has been replaced by a wooden sauna, but a fire is fired directly on the floor to make the stones glow. Fragrant leaf and herb oil is mixed into the water, which is then poured onto the stones. When you feel like you’ve been in the sauna and you’re getting too hot, take a quick dip at the small sandy beach. In winter we have an ice bath, cold but nice! After the dip in the lake, up in the Hot Tube. It is a large wooden vessel with room for eight to ten people. The water is heated to 39 degrees, wonderfully warm.
After the bath, we are happy to arrange everything from a barbecue meal to a more complete dinner. We can be outside by the campfire, in a larger Native American TeePee or in a smaller charcoal hut, depending on wishes and numbers. The best time for a Sweat Lodge is in the evening just before sunset. The area is illuminated with torches and fires. See the full moon, hear the big horn and listen to the silence.
A large canoe is 11.5 meters long and 1.7 meters wide. And has room for a maximum of 16 people in each canoe.
Paddling a Montreal canoe (large canoe) is a huge experience! You get your paddle, your place in the canoe, your personal duffel bag. Then it goes away!
Number of participants from a minimum of ten to 32 people. A real trip with a large canoe – just like old times in the wilds of Canada. The equipment is historic. You live in Indian tents and cook the classic food together in large pots over campfires. Storkanot is recommended for all groups, school classes, scouts, companies and associations.
We have two large canoes and can supplement with two-man canoes if necessary.
