Group and leadership development
Collaborative process
Our group and leadership development program focuses on the collaborative process. Through various exercises with experience-based learning as a basis, conditions are created for studying the group’s communication and its decisions.
The exercises are laid out so that the participants are forced to think, plan, and finally act as a full-fledged team with effective leadership. All exercises are carried out outdoors, in such a way that the participant is in a “safety zone”. There, the participant can highlight his part in the group and so that his own attitude contributes to the group’s success. The exercises are led by our supervisors, who link each exercise to a process-oriented review and follow-up conversation in the group.
The goal for this is to clarify the group’s patterns, behaviors and values. This can then be compared with the daily work situation and improve the group’s way of working as well as managing the interpersonal process. Most often, the supervisor connects to different theories for the development of groups and thus clarifies the development of their own group.

Commitment
The majority of the exercises are of an adventurous nature and require both sacrifice and commitment beyond the usual. It is the commitment that is important. Through our program, which puts each participant in the group in a situation where everyone has to take responsibility, we create a different environment in contrast to a traditional lecture where we instead listen to theories about group cooperation and leadership.
"Learning by doing"
At the facility there are a number of fixed tracks for various exercises of varying nature. All exercises and games are laid out so that the participant must focus on planning, analysis, organization and communication.
Both the group and the individual are given the opportunity to improve their behavior and process this actively. The development takes place through “learning by doing”, what we today call experiential learning.
Of course, each participant is responsible for their own development, and we therefore do not force anyone to complete a part that they wish to refrain from. Such a choice is supported by both the supervisor and the group and is an individual responsibility. However, some exercises are e.g. the so-called “trust exercises”, where one’s own fear must be dealt with, excluded. The supervisor then emphasizes the goal of the exercise without forcing the participant.
Preparations
Our program achieves the best results as it can be adapted to each group’s needs. We need to know something about your relationships and working methods even before you come to us. We are happy to visit you and carry out an analysis if necessary in order to set up a program with you. We have a long experience and have worked with many companies for several years. Our supervisors have a serious and professional education and experience from several areas of working life. Of course, everyone with us has a solid feeling for wilderness and outdoor life.

Book the trip or stays
We’d love to talk to you before you arrive. The idea is to offer you our experience and knowledge of this unique wilderness area. You can choose to paddle only in smaller lakes and streams that you can reach with short portages or to paddle in the larger lakes with locks. Many of our guests also choose a longer trip into Norway.
If you want to start or end at a place other than Risviken, we can arrange transport at reasonable prices. Many customers come back year after year to try new tours and experience tranquility and nature.
